Super Bring Your Own Project Class | 6 hour Class

Tessuti Surry Hills • 6  hours • Up to 4 people • Book and pay online

Regular price $180.00

Everything you love about our Bring Your Own Project class -  but with six hours to really get into it. You choose your project and work on it with hands-on guidance from Nikki throughout the session. Work on something new, push further with a current make, get to grips with sewing knits or using an overlocker, or use the extra time to tackle pattern fitting and modification.

The longer format makes this class particularly well suited to fitting work - if you can sew your own garments but find yourself frustrated with the fit, this is the class to finally sort it out. You'll have the time and support to adjust a pattern to fit exactly as you want, or make style changes to something existing.

You'll need some existing sewing knowledge to join, or to have completed our Beginners Class first. Classes are held in the back of our Surry Hills store in Sydney, in small groups of up to four. Feel free to browse in store before or after your session.

What to bring

  • Your fabric and pattern
  • Scissors for fabric and paper
  • Measuring tape
  • Unpicker
  • Needles and thread
  • Pens, pencil, or tailor's chalk
  • Calico or scrap fabric, if making a toile

If you're working on pattern fitting, these extras are also handy:

  • Ruler — a French curve ruler is particularly useful
  • Pins
  • Sharp pencil and eraser
  • Magic or sticky tape
  • Grading ruler, tracing wheel, or coloured pens optional

Sewing machines and overlockers are available in the studio — no need to bring your own.

How to prepare

Please email Nikki before booking with details of your intended project so she can confirm it's suitable. Keep your project realistic for the session and pitched to your own ability. You'll find her contact details in your booking confirmation.

If you're planning to work on pattern fitting, a little preparation beforehand will help you make the most of your time in class:

  • Cut out your pattern — ideally one you've used before and know needs adjustment. When in doubt, cut the larger size.
  • Cut a calico or scrap fabric version of the garment. Skip pockets and facings, but you can cut one sleeve. Bring the full pattern with you.
  • Sew the calico together using a long stitch and contrasting thread so seams can be unpicked easily.

The calico fitting takes place in the shop — wear a close-fitting t-shirt and leggings underneath in case your calico doesn't cover everything.

Class guidelines

  • Workshops start and finish on the hour — please arrive ready to begin on time and pack up within class time.
  • You must have some existing sewing knowledge, or have completed our Beginners Class, to attend.
  • Feel free to bring a water bottle.
  • Shopping in store before or after class is always welcome.
