This class is perfect for you if you have a favourite garment you'd love to recreate, without unpicking it. You'll learn how to systematically trace off your garment, ensuring each pattern piece fits together correctly and has the right grainline. A genuinely useful skill that opens up a whole new way of sewing.

You can make your pattern on paper or cardboard, and if time permits you'll also make a toile to test the fit before cutting into your fabric at home. Toile fabric can be purchased at Tessuti on the day with the teacher's help. Classes are held in the back of our Surry Hills store in Sydney, in small groups of up to three. Feel free to browse in store before or after your session.

  • Scissors for fabric and paper
  • Measuring tape
  • Unpicker
  • Needles and thread
  • French curve or grading ruler
  • Pens, pencil, or tailor's chalk
  • Pins

Sewing machines are available in the studio — no need to bring your own. If you'd like to make a toile during class, fabric can be purchased in store on the day with your teacher's help.

How to prepare

Choose the garment you'd like to take a pattern from and bring it along on the day. Please no draped or pleated garments for this class.

Class guidelines
  • Workshops start and finish on the hour — please arrive ready to begin on time and pack up within class time.
  • Sewing machines are provided — please do not bring your own.
  • Feel free to bring a water bottle.

Shopping in store before or after class is always welcome.

Due to limited spaces, all bookings are final. Cancellations result in forfeit of payment, and bookings are non-transferable to other dates. Please check your dates carefully before booking — no exceptions can be made.
